1) GLASGOW BOTANIC GARDENS

All summer - Glasgow West End

This is one of the prettiest green spaces you'll spy in Glasgow, filled to the brim with history, botany and fine architecture - the perfect place to spend a summers day in Glasgow.

Originally laid out in 1841 as part of the Uni of Glasgow, the gardens were acquired by the city and made public in 1891. In 1873 the most distinctive building – the eccentric domed glasshouse Kibble Palace – was erected, followed a few years later by the Main Range teak glasshouse. Both have been beautifully preserved and brim with exotic plant life, from arid lands to tropical rainforests.

Our fave spot is the long east-west facing green in front of the glasshouses which pairs perfectly with life on warm days, be it with a group of friends, alone for a quiet read or to join a yoga class.

2) SAUSAGE & CIDER FESTIVAL

30th-31st July - Briggait Glasgow

Enjoy Glasgow’s first Sausage & Cider Festival this summer. The two day event has an afternoon or evening slot, with both sessions including live music, plenty of craft cider and posh sausages. The organisers pride themselves on working with some of the UK’s best independent cider makers and their events always offer a wide range of unique flavours including rum, chocolate, pineapple, mix berry, alongside the traditional apple and pear flavours.

Don't worry if you don’t like cider though, as there’s also a prosecco and gin bar, and if you’re feeling adventurous why not sign up for one of the eating contests? Jump up on stage and join in to compete against other attendees to try and eat just over 1m of Sausage as fast as you can... or if you're more of a spice fan, enter their famous chilli eating contest to see how far you can get with 6 rounds of chillis.

3) THE GREAT GAME OUTDOOR TREASURE HUNT

From 20th May - Glasgow Central Station

The Great Game Outdoor Treasure Hunt is a unique city treasure hunt perfect for exploring Glasgow this summer. The hunt will lead you around the beautiful city, taking in all its famous landmarks, secret back streets and explaining a little bit of its history along the way.

You're given a treasure map, a compass, puzzles, riddles, codes and orienteering work to find your way along the route in search of the buried treasure. If you're successful in figuring out where X marks the spot, you'll find the real treasure of Glasgow - a great pub! Where you'll receive a 20% discount off your bill in celebration.

4) DRYGATE BREWERY

All summer - Glasgow East End

Drygate Brewery is an experiential micro-brewery in the heart of Glasgow's East End, featuring a beer hall and a restaurant.

The brewery is a joint venture between craft brewers Williams Brothers and macro-brewers Tennent’s located partly in a 1930s former box factory beside the Tennent’s brewery on Duke Street in the East End. Drygate has a beer hall with big screens for sports and space for music and comedy events, and a terrace for those rare Glasgow days when the rain isn’t pouring down (we've got our fingers crossed for summer). You can sample 26 rotating beers on tap and countless more bottled varieties. If you’re looking to go behind the scenes, that’s easily sorted: just go along to one of the brewery tours and you’ll discover exactly how Drygate’s fantastic beers come to be.

5) GLASGOW MUSIC CITY TOURS

All summer - Merchant City, Music Mile & Scottish Trad Trail

The Glasgow Music City Tours are a chance to explore the city's immense musical history with expert guides who are all individually immersed in Glasgow's cultural life - an ideal way to spend a summers afternoon in the city.

If you're keen to find out exactly why Glasgow was named the UK’s first UNESCO City of Music in 2008, the team at Glasgow Music City Tours will give you the lowdown. Each walking tour lasts around two hours and in that time, you'll see some of the city's best venues, hear stories about key figures past and present and learn more about the many events, festivals and organisations that make Glasgow what it is year-round. You'll visit places like King Tut's, the Royal Concert Hall, the Barrowland Ballroom and much more.
